Students and employees at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary celebrate two additional days of thanksgiving each year, scheduled between the Canadian and U.S. Thanksgiving Days.

“We are giving thanks this morning for the people who give generously to the seminary,” Missy Kauffman Schrock, director of development, told students, faculty and staff on Oct. 22.

Late October is the time in the school year when funds would run out if the seminary relied only on the tuition that students pay. “We celebrate not only the contribution students make,” Schrock said. “We also celebrate the fact that we have thousands of generous people who contribute each year to support bg真人. These friends believe in our students and our faculty to do what is needed to educate leaders for the future of the church.”

Giving Thanks Days this year were Oct. 22 and 24, the second day chosen because the bg真人 board of directors was gathered on campus and they could join in the celebration.

Part of the bg真人 Giving Thanks tradition is writing notes of gratitude to donors. Students who receive scholarships are asked to write to the donors or contact people for those funds; others are asked to write notes of thanks to donors who contribute to student aid and the annual fund.

Unlike a college where the ratio of students to faculty is much larger, at bg真人 tuition covered only 11 percent of income in the previous school year. The seminary relies on contributions for approximately one-half of its annual income; the remainder of the income comes from investments and auxiliary services.
