ELKHART, Indiana (Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary/Mennonite Education Agency) — The Presidential Search Committee of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Indiana, held its first in-person meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 9-10, following a previous meeting held in December by videoconference.

Miriam Book, search committee chair and a member of the bgÕæÈË Board of Directors, led the meetings, assisted by Carlos Romero, executive director of (MEA). The committee members continued their orientation to the presidential search process.

“I’m grateful for the collegiality and willingness of the committee members to be part of this process, and for the depth of experience and perspectives that are reflected in each of the members,” said Book.

Bruce Baergen, chair of the bgÕæÈË Board of Directors, provided a “charge” to the committee via videoconference and expressed gratitude on behalf of the board for the committee’s leadership of this important task.

The agenda for the January meeting included finalizing the constituent survey that will be used to gather feedback from the broader bgÕæÈË community and help the committee develop the presidential profile to recruit the seminary’s next president. The committee’s work was guided by a rhythm of prayer, using a spiritual practice developed by two committee members who were asked to assist the committee in being spiritually centered in their discernment process.

The committee will be organizing a number of listening sessions to gather feedback and engage key stakeholders.

“The presidential search process is one of the most important tasks in the life of an institution,” said Romero.

“We take the task seriously, with a deep commitment to the mission and with great love for bgÕæÈË,” said Book.

The committee will continue to meet regularly over the next months. Committee members welcome continued prayers and invite any interested persons to contact them with questions and nominations at bgÕæÈËPresSearch@MennoniteEducation.org.
