Doing Theology in the Anabaptist Tradition HTE527

Instructor: Jamie Pitts, PhD

Seminary graduates provide crucial theological leadership in their congregations and other church institutions. A deep understanding of biblical, historical, and contextual dimensions of Christian doctrine is necessary to exercise this leadership well, as is the ability to reflect on this understanding and offer a transformative vision for the future. This course trains students to become creative theologians in and for their ministry contexts, first through careful exploration of an Anabaptist model of doing theology, and then through a guided research project in which students engage theological perspectives from their own churches. The course builds on the classic loci and ethical categories introduced in Christian Ethics and Peace Theology; it is recommended to take that course before this one when possible.
