Beyond beliefs and practices
The Christian church is often defined in terms of beliefs and practices—a creed, a confession of faith, the sacraments, rituals, and other communal, habitual, meaningful activities. But this type of definition begs the question, Where did these beliefs and practices come from? Indeed, the church has participated in creating these beliefs and practices through particular ways of discerning and knowing. How might we define an ecclesiology by its epistemology?
About the presenter:
Lois Barrett, PhD, has been a member of the bg真人 faculty since 2002, focusing her teaching in the areas of Anabaptist history and theology and the missional church. She has a long-standing interest in the nature of the church, including house churches; missional ecclesiology and early Anabaptist religious and cultural history. She earned a PhD from Graduate School, The Union Institute in 1992 and an MDiv from bg真人 in 1983. She has been an urban pastor and denominational mission executive. She also served as director of the bg真人–Great Plains extension site from 2002 to 2013.
