Mark S. Smith presents lectureship

Mark S. Smith, Ph.D., will present the annual Theological Lecturship at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, March 19–20, bringing the Bible into conversation with our time and our questions.
Smith’s first presentation will be a sermon in a chapel service on Wednesday, March 19, beginning at 11:45 a.m. At 1:15 p.m., he will present his first lecture, “Does God in the Bible have a body?” On Thursday, March 20, he will present a lecture at 10:15 a.m., “Why is God angry in the Bible (and what’s love got to do with it)?” and another at 1:30 p.m., “Does God in the Bible have gender or sexuality?”
All lectures will be in the seminary’s chapel at 3003 Benham Avenue. There is no charge to attend.
Smith holds the Skirball Chair of Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at New York University. He completed his PhD at Yale, after earning masters degrees from the Catholic University of America, Harvard Divinity School, and Yale University. He was President of the Catholic Biblical Association of America in 2010–11, and in 2011 he was elected to the American Academy for Jewish Research. Smith has published over 100 essays and articles, including first editions of four minor manuscripts of the Dead Sea Scrolls. He is the author of fourteen books and co-author of two others.
