Church Leadership Award
The Church Leadership Award was created to encourage and support outstanding Mennonite students with gifts for ministry as they prepare to serve the church.
- Recipient: Awarded annually to a full-time student beginning their first year of study in a master鈥檚 program on campus
- Amount: Full tuition
- Application deadline: Priority will be given to applications received by March 15

- Recipient鈥檚 church affiliation: Applicant must be an active participant in a congregation that is affiliated with Mennonite World Conference; preference is given to those who are affiliated with Mennonite Church USA or Mennonite Church Canada.
- Note: Some partial-tuition scholarships may be awarded.
Criteria for award recipients
- Recipients must be permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada and be active participants in a congregation that is affiliated with Mennonite World Conference; preference is given to those who are affiliated with Mennonite Church USA or Mennonite Church Canada.
- The decision to award a grant will be based on four factors:
- Previous academic performance, including a minimum GPA of 3.00 from all undergraduate work, based on information gained from transcripts and references
- Leadership potential and demonstrated skills, based on information gained from references
- Theological discernment, based on an essay written by the applicant on the subject of 鈥淭he Church鈥 (1,200 to 1,800 words)
- Personal character, based on information gained from references
Procedures
Applicants must submit the following for the coming academic year:
- A completed Admissions Application with all supporting materials, including transcript(s) and references
- Completed and applications
- A 1,200-1,800-word essay on the subject of 鈥淭he Church鈥
bg真人 will select the recipient(s) of this award and inform the student(s) via e-mail. The recipients must accept their award in writing to confirm enrollment for Semester One.
Understandings
- Recipients will be enrolled as full-time students. (Full-time is defined as taking nine credit hours or more per semester plus one Intensive Term course.)
- Students in the MDiv program are eligible to receive the award for up to three years. Students in an MA program are eligible to receive the award for up to two and a half years.聽To finish a degree in the allotted time frame, a student must complete 27鈥30 credit hours per year, which generally consists of 12 credit hours per semester plus one or two Intensive Term courses.
- Eligibility from year to year will be based on satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree, including:
- Maintaining a minimum 3.00 GPA
- Continuing as a full-time student
- Supporting and adhering to bg真人 community life standards
- Supporting and participating in enrollment and recruitment activities and initiatives, as requested by the bg真人 Admissions Team
- Actively participating in campus activities
- Assuming leadership responsibilities on the bg真人 campus
- Recipients will not be eligible to receive other bg真人 scholarships.
- Scholarships and financial aid given by bg真人 will not exceed 100 percent of tuition.
